Guidelines

Week 1 - Seek a topic

Go to Yahoo, online, as well as the LRC INDEX, and About.com. Explore topics by category. You will find them on the first page. Just follow the links, choosing your favorite in each case. Read about areas in which you might want to do research.

Start reading up on MLA. You will need to know this thoroughly before you start taking notes. These notes are just an introduction. You may also want to look at more extensive notes.

Week 2 - Seek a topic

Now that you have an idea for a topic, you need to start narrowing it and collecting keywords for use in research. Write down all the words you have learned so far about the topic.
-Go to the print indexes and choose one that covers your topic area. Look up your topic in the most recent full year volume. Notice what terms are used, and the cross-references. Notice how the topic is further broken down into sub-categories.
