PETA

Iams Cruelty contract laboratories and their abuses of animals
Iams Cruelty - Con the other side of the story

Before you slander Iams you should look for more facts and they should be from a more reliable source than PETA. PETA is in the business ( yes I mean business, they are a multi-million dollar business) of spreading lies and sensationalizing. Personally I wouldn't believe a word that they said. These are people that don't believe that anyone should even have a pet. (letter on Toller-L, 1-12-04).

The case mentioned here shows PeTA at it's worst, as an organization more interested in publicity than in the welfare of animals.

What was covered by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is that Iams had contracts with several small firms to do feeding studies. Under the terms of the contract, Iams placed an employee in a position to monitor the care and treatment of the animals in the feeding studies. Lo and behold, PeTA sent one of their bogus undercover people in and she was hired by Iams as their contract monitor. Her responsibilities were to observe and report on conditions including advising the contractor of any need for corrective action. In other words, she was hired as an animal advocate.

Instead, she took movies. While some of the conditions were not the best, she did nothing to stop what was going on. She just kept the cameras rolling and then falsified her reports back to Iams that all was OK. After several months, she and PeTA then accused Iams of willful neglect! The neglect was hers and PeTA's! Had she acted as she was hired to do, Iams would have been in a position to enforce the contract provisions or to terminate the contract. So, the neglect is that of the PeTA agent. The conspiracy is that of PeTA and the agent. Iams only fault was in being duped by their criminal behavior. (letter to Toller-L, 1-12-04).

"The Animal Rights Brigade marches on with their agenda to end all use, breeding, and ownership of animals for any reason, including pet ownership!" (email from RPOArescue-L).

"PETA's position is so radical that president Ingrid Newkirk declared: "Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we'd be against it." PETA's medical front group, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), attacks the Alzheimer's Association, the Alzheimer's Disease Research, and the Alzheimer's Society of Canada because those groups know a cure for the degenerative disease might require the use of animals" (RPOA email, 8/20/04).
